Getting Around in Windows without a Mouse

Getting Around in Windows without a Mouse

Many different key combinations can be used to manipulate, navigate, and configure Windows straight from the keyboard. Here are the ones you should know for the OS Technologies exam:

l Instant Answer

l Alt (or F10): Moves the cursor control to the Menu bar of the current application or back.
l Alt+Esc: Cycles through the applications running in the Task Bar.
l Alt+F4: Closes the current application. If there are no running applications, this key set displays  the Shut down box.
l Alt+Spacebar: Displays the Control menu of the current application window. Alt closes the menu.
l Alt+Tab: Shows a menu and cycles through the icons of the applications running in the Task Bar.
l Ctrl+Alt+Delete: When not from an error screen, this key set displays the Close Program box.
From the Blue Screen of Death, it will restart the system.
l Ctrl+Esc: Shows the Start menu and Task Bar.
l Ctrl+Tab and Ctrl+Shift+Tab: These key sets move you through the tabs on a dialog box.

l Shift: In addition to its other primary use, if you hold down the Shift key when inserting a CDROM, any autorun programs on or associated with the CD will not run.
